Nigerian Brunch is a digital news publication operated by Nigerian Brunch Media Group. When we say we, us or our in this policy, that is who we mean.

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use nigerianbrunch.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. It applies to this website and to our email newsletters.

Information you give us. Your email address when you subscribe to a newsletter. Your name, email and message when you contact us. Anything else you volunteer in correspondence.

Information collected automatically. Your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed and time spent, and approximate location derived from your IP address at city or country level.

We do not ask for and do not want your financial details, your government identification numbers, or sensitive personal data such as health, religion or political affiliation. Please do not send these to us.

To deliver the site and the newsletters you asked for, and to keep them working properly.

To understand which stories are read so we can commission more of what serves you and less of what does not.

To sell and serve advertising, which is what pays for the journalism.

To protect the site against fraud, scraping and abuse, and to comply with legal obligations when we are required to.

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, and your email is removed from the active list promptly after you do.

Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter and to keep a record of any editorial complaint, then deleted.

Analytics data is retained in aggregated form. Raw log data including IP addresses is retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or anonymised.

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act and, where it applies to you, the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format.

You can withdraw consent for optional cookies or newsletters at any time. Every newsletter carries a one click unsubscribe link.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@nigerianbrunch.com. We will respond within thirty days. You will never be charged for making a request and we will never treat you differently for making one.

If you believe we have mishandled your data, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to your local supervisory authority if you are in the UK or EU.

We protect data in transit with encryption and limit internal access to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if a breach affects you.

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.

If we change this policy we will update the date below, and where the change is significant we will say so on the site rather than hoping you do not notice.
