The Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dominant 3-0 victory over rivals Ghana at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Sunday evening.

Goals from Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and a late strike by Samuel Chukwueze sealed a performance that sent tens of thousands of fans into rapturous celebration inside the stadium and across Nigeria.

**The Match**

Nigeria dominated from the first whistle. Osimhen opened the scoring with a composed finish in the 23rd minute after a precise through ball from Wilfred Ndidi split the Ghanaian defence.

Lookman doubled the lead before half-time with a curling effort from the edge of the box that left the Ghanaian goalkeeper with no chance. The second-half display was equally assured, with Chukwueze adding gloss to the scoreline in the 74th minute with a low driven shot from outside the box.

**Qualification Secured**

The result means Nigeria finish top of their qualification group, making them the first African nation to formally secure a spot at the tournament to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Super Eagles' qualification ends a drought that had seen Nigeria miss the 2018 and 2022 editions of the tournament, making this result particularly significant for Nigerian football fans who have endured years of disappointment.

**Coach and Players React**

Head coach Eric Chelle praised his players' collective effort and dedication throughout the campaign. Victor Osimhen, named man of the match, described the qualification as one of the proudest moments of his career.

"This is for every Nigerian. We worked so hard for this, and now we are going to the World Cup," Osimhen said after the final whistle.

**National Celebrations**

Spontaneous celebrations erupted across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and other major cities as news of the final whistle spread. President Tinubu sent a congratulatory message to the team, calling the result a source of national pride.

Nigeria will now begin preparations for next year's tournament, with the squad expected to continue its development under Coach Chelle ahead of the group stage draw.
